On June 11, 2016 Jersey City residents, leaders, and organizations came together on the corner of Macadoo and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive for the National Black United Front’s Jersey City Unity Walk, which was organized by Jersey City’s own Ms. Pamela Johnson whom was presented with a Proclamation from the State of New Jersey, by Assemblywoman Angela McKnight, for organizing a long needed opportunity for residents to network with the organizations and community leaders that are working hard to decrease many of the injustices and violence in the Jersey City community.
The walk started on Macadoo and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and proceeded to Lincoln Park as residents and business owners showed support as they enjoyed performances from the Untouchable Technique Drum and Drill squad. The walk ended at Lincoln Park for a brief session of words encouragement. Opening with a prayer from Pastor Richard McDonald from the Love of Jesus Family Church, followed by Senator Sandra Cunningham, Assemblywoman Angela McKnight, Hudson County Freeholder Bill O’Dea, spoken word performances by Jersey City youth residents, a reproduction of Boogie Down Production’s song Self Destruction by students from P.S. #24, and ended with a barbecue lunch with music and a double dutch performance by the Jersey City Honey Bees.
