On Friday, November 4th, Assemblywoman Angela McKnight held the first Community Dinner which brought members of multiple communities in, and around Jersey City, together at the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Jersey City.
Before the main festivities there was a surprise visit from Mayor Fulop to inform the attendees of the importance of voting on the questions at the bottom of the voting ballot when they go to the polls on November 8th.
During the Community Dinner attendees were able to meet and greet their neighbors through an introduction of each individual present and an elective that allowed them to connect and come up with ideas that would strengthen their communities by creating opportunities to get to know their neighbors. One point highlighted was: the lack of knowing one’s neighbor causes a disconnection in the community as a whole. All attending agreed that getting to know one’s neighbor contributes to the strengthening of community and is beneficial to the development of our children. When communities are in constant communication it builds a stronger relationship and builds trust, respect, and forms a caring relationship throughout the neighborhood. The Community Dinner ended with all attendees taking a pledge and signing the pledge board that will be available at Assemblywoman McKnight’s office.
